Parenting itself is pushed to the margins, mostly by means of mass media. Today parents are breaking their necks trying to have some influence on their kids. They’re working and the TV is on all the time when they’re away.
Young people often conform to what they see on TV, and to what the media feeds them. You end up with the young and fashionable being shaped by the marketplace.
Look at the lives of our young people – rich, middle class or poor. There’s a vast desert of sadness in their souls. Without direct intervention and commitment, they’re not the future of our nation. It’s a very troubling affair.
